Claudia OSHIRO<\/strong>, musician and singer of the shima-uta (Ryuukyuu islands) style of music, is releasing her 5th album Clarity<\/em> on September 6th! The album is perhaps more correctly considered a mini-album as it contains 8 tracks with several of them likely being covers, including “Dynamic Ryuukyuu”, “Nanta hama”, and “Ichimadin.” The first track, “ALAS ~Tsubasa~” is being used for a TV commercial. <\/p>\n

Claudia is known for her work with THE BOOM<\/strong>, a band that popularized shima-uta music (although they did not originate in the Ryuukyuu islands). <\/p>\n

Those who don’t know about Claudia’s background might find it interesting to learn that her big break came from covering THE BOOM’s “Shima Uta” in Argentina, when the Spanish version of that song was very popular in that country. Claudia herself is of Okinawan descent, and was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Claudia was invited to tour with THE BOOM, and afterwards debuted as a solo artist in Okinawa in 2007, where she has been performing since. Now that is an island paradise career.<\/p>\n
