BAND-MAIKO strikes again, now with a mini-album!

Last year, the rock band BAND-MAID released a music video as the renamed band, BAND-MAIKO, as an April Fool’s joke. In the music video, the band members wore traditional Japanese garb and sang in a specific Kyoto dialect reminiscent of maiko, which are apprentice geisha.

This April 1st, the band released another BAND-MAIKO song and video, and now they are releasing a mini-album on April 3rd!

ELLEGARDEN is back!

After a 10 year hiatus, the legendary punk rock band ELLEGARDEN has announced they are back! The group split up in 2008 at the height of their popularity over creative differences, and have been pursuing solo projects since then. Most notable have been Takeshi HOSOMI’s group the HIATUS, and Shinichi UBUKATA’s group Nothing’s Carved In Stone.

ELLEGARDEN has not yet announced any new releases since their comeback, but will be touring in August in Japan, with three live events set so far.

BAND-MAIKO: April fool’s music video “secret MAIKO lips”

Hard rock band BAND-MAID released a music video on April 1st. With it, they announced they changed the band’s name to BAND-MAIKO, and performed a song titled “secret MAIKO lips” dressed in kimono, with a shamisen backing track. In addition, the lyrics were re-written (from their original song “secret My lips”) into a Kyoto dialect.

Guitarist Misa leaving Bridear

Guitarist Misa of the all-female metal rock band Bridear announced yesterday that she will be leaving the band after their October 28th live show. Misa is one of the two guitarists in the band, which is known for its technical “twin guitar” style. Misa’s announcement cited creative differences as the major reason for her departure, and although it did not disclose details, hinted that she will continue to stay active in the music scene. Given her more progressive sounds and solos, I would not be surprised if she goes much, much more toward the progressive end.
